Great pictures, Kratylos!
I don't know why so few Swedes go to Peloponnese, but I know something about why so few Norwegians go (being one myself). One reason is when Norwegians (and I guess, all Scandinavians) think about a holiday in Greece, they think about the islands. I think many don't even consider going to the mainland, as they know absolutely nothing about it. So yes, probably some promotion could help. But there is also another reason, I think. Most of the tourists from Norway/Scandinavia travel to Greece with a charter company, and probably more than 90 % of their tours go to the island. My husband and I fell in love with Peloponnese some years ago, and have been back every year since then. We have also travelled in Epiros, Sterea Ellada and Thessaly, and this year we will travel all over Macedonia. We think the mainland is much more interesting than the islands, but even so, we love the islands as well! We have been in Patras, but never to Kalogria beach. But after seeing your pictures, we sure must go there! |

![]() I think that you are right , all of the reasons above are true. I remember when i was in Karpathos many people from Norway but also Sweden were there. It seemed to me very strange then because it is just a small uknown (at least to the greek people) island. Of course most of the islands have the advantage of crystal waters and beautiful landscapes , and this "unique aegean sea" island feeling.... But still i dont see why not even one swedish charter flyes to Araxos or Kalamata airport in Peloponnisos. I dont think that crete for example has more things to offer to a visitor (except of course the huge hotels which were built the last 30 years) then many other places in Greece. It was just more promoted the last 20 years. Anyway , i hope that in the near future more people will have the opportunity to visit new places and discover the other side of Greece (the one not promoted from the tour operators). |

![]() In april/may 2003 we went with them to Kardamili ![]() We did rent a car and I really agree with you, Peloponnesos is a beauty - in spring - wonderful. ![]() Kardamili was our "base", from there we did go around the "fingers" to Finikounda, Koroni, Methoni and Pylos. Voidokilia is a lagune/beach we will remember ![]() We also went the other direction to Pirgos Dirou, Arepoli, Itilo, Vathia, Gythio, and Monemvasia. - to Kalamata, Mistras and Sparta. And of course we did a lot of stops in beutiful small places ! YES, we want to go back!!!!!! ![]() SO, WHY not,.... YET ??? I THINK, the reason why we have went back to the islands ( so far ![]() It seems/feels more relaxed to me to go to 3 or 4 "limited" islands during 3 weeks, than to the "unlimited" mainland with a lot of places we want to visit. Thank you for beautiful photos ![]() ![]() |
