Eftersom detta är en tråd om grekiska ord och uttryck så passar jag på att stämma av ett uttryck som jag fått lära mig på grekiska tavernor och som kommer ofta till användning för mig. Det är "sketo" (är inte hundra på stavningen men uttalet har jag uppfattat så).

Eftersom jag gillar grekiskt kaffe och vill ha det utan socker så har jag lärt mig att det gäller att göra det klart redan vid beställningen. Och istället för det längre engelska "no sugar" så har jag fått besked om att säga sketo.

Efter ett tags klurande blev min fundering om uttrycket "sketo" också kunde användas om ouzo, ungefär som engelskans "straight", för att få den som jag vill ha den, dvs ren ouzo utan vatten och is i glaset. Efter koll med grekiska vänner på tavernor har det bekräftats, och i praktisk tillämpning visat sig fungera både för att få "rent grekiskt kaffe" och "ren ouzo" utan tillsatser. Men om det är vedertagen grekiska eller bara ett sätt att skoja med turister vet jag inte.

Hur använder en grek ordet "sketo"?

Som du, Masse. Skéto avser något rent, utan något annat inblandat, och inte bara om drycker alltså. Norstedts grekiska ordbok har inte ordet med, i ett tyskt lexikon hittar jag rein, einfach,ungezuckert, trocken, i ett grekisk-engelskt står det plain, simple, pure.

På tal om stavning...jag kan inte låta bli att citera ett stycke ur "Captain Corelli's Mandolin", kapitel 25:
"All over the island there was a burgeoning of grafitti that took merry or malicious advantage of the fact that the Italians could not decipher the Cyrillic script. They mistook Rs for Ps, did not know that Gs can look like Ys or inverted Ls, had no idea what the triangle was, thought that an E was an H, construed theta as a kind of O, did not appreciate that the letter in the shape of a tent was the same as the one that looked like an inverted Y, were baffled by the three horizontal strokes that could also be written as a squiggle, knew from mathematics that pi meant 22 divided by 7, were unaware that E the wrong way round was an S, that the Y could also be written as a V and was in fact an E, were confused bu the existence of an O with a vertical stroke that was actually an F, did not understand that the X was a K, failed utterly to find anything that might be meant by the elegant trident, and found that the omega reminded them of an earring."

Lite elakt men också kul! Och ack så sant: grekiska är minsann inte lätt att lära sig!
