Nu fick du mig att längta efter en resa, Admirala. Mykene såg jag första gången 1965, en fruktansvärt varm dag. De andra ställen har jag aldrig sett. Nån gång ska det bli av!

Pyramiden ser kanskje ikke så imponerende ut på Arnes bilde, men den er større enn man kanskje skulle tro, og det er et flott og underlig sted å være.
Og i tillegg nydelig utsikt over Argolidabukten og Nafplio.

Thanks for the information, as we all know the region of argolida is certainly one of the most historical areas in Greece and it is always included in the classic triangle of most tourists (Delphi-olympia-Argolis).
But to be realistic except the most well known places (which are Nafplio,Mycenae,Tiryns,Epidaurus and Argos) the other that you mention are not so well marked and not so attractive for a visit at least in their present situation.

By the way this is a very practical Interactive cultural map of Greece, from the site of the ministry of culture. (it includes almost everything significant)

Jeg er på ingen måte enig. Tiryns er for eksempel på mange måter mer spennende og "vel bevart" enn Mykine. Lerna og Didima og Kefalari er helt unike, Agia Moni er et nydelig kloster og bare utsikten er verd besøket, tholos'en i Dendra, broene i Arkadiko og pyramiden i Ellinikon er også severdigheter som gir følelsen av å stå overfor noe utrolig og særpreget, og på mange måter mer interessant enn nok et utgravingsfelt med tempelrester. Jeg synes det er ganske utrolig at du kan påstå at dette ikke er attraktivt for besøkende!

Vi längtar till Nafplio. Ska dit i juni. Förra året övernattade vi på parkeringen i hamnen (i husbil) ingen klagade så vi hoppas det går bra i år med. Det lär vi väl märka.
Nu har vi ännu fler platser att besöka i området .
En fråga: Nån restaurang i Nafplio som har riktigt god mat? (kanske inte för dyrt)

Hei Cecilia, og velkommen tilbake til Nafplio.

Jeg har laget en oversikt over de, etter min mening, beste spisestedene i Nafplio, som ligger her på forumet. Her er det mye godt å velge blant, alt etter hva dere foretrekker å spise. Rimeligst av disse er nok Tsipouradiko'et som ligger i nybyen, men omgivelsene der er jo ikke på langt nær så romantiske som i gamlebyen...
Ingen av stedene på listen er for øvrig i høy prisklasse.

Admirala thanks for your comments but could you please write in english cause i dont understand all that you wrote?
Anyway perhaps i was misunderstood, i wanted to stress that some of the attractions that you mentioned, though they are very nice, they still are considered as secondary attractions and still ignored from most visitors for various reasons...
One of the reasons is the poor marking/signage , the poor informative material on the site , the almost abandoned surounding areas (especially when they forget to cut the wild vegetation around).


Here is an example of what i mean. The pyramid of Hellinikon :

The size of the structure is ~ 12-14 m x 8.6 m
I remind here that there are conflicting opinions about the age of the structure. (some say that its older then the egyptian pyramids some say that its from the 4th century BC)
Anyway if you stay for some days in Nafplio and you have a car and you have seen anything else , you could spend some time and go by car (no other option) to the small deserted hill near kefalari village and spend 15 min to see the structure but thats all..
At least the view from the hill toward the sea is very nic

Agia Moni, which is an old monastery and a small spiritual paradise (as all monasteries are) is very nice but still not a primary attraction for a visitor.There are hundreds of such monasteries in Greece, its always nice anyway nice to visit an orthodox monastery and take the blessing.

Sure its a very important cave for the prehestorical period of europe AND THE WORLD (PALAEOLITHIC TILL NEOLITHIC) but there is not much there to see in our days. Most of the findings are kept in the archaeological museum of Nafplion. For arhaeologists and other scientists sure its a very important place, and still there are some excavations but you would not put it in the front line of "must visit" attractions for a visitor of Greece , Peloponnese and Argolis.
It would help if there was a small building with multimedia represantation of the life at the times when the cave was inhabited , or at least someone from the ministry of culture to give information.
Instead , you travel a quite long time from Nafplio to east argolid (near the village of Kilada) and then you see just a cave, and if you dont have a book or look in google for more information you dont get much. Perhaps in the future when the ministry decides to "upgrade" the site it will be more interesting to visit it.
At least (like in the case of hellinikon) the view is quite nice!

Didzma caves (dolines) is a great site because of the impressive morphology of the ground (still uknown why those craters were created).

From the 2 caves the most interesting is the smallest one where you can enjoy the peacefull atmosphere of the trees and visit the small chapels that are built inside the "crater"

Though its not a primary attraction you could pay a visit if you have some time after returning from a visit to epidaurus.

A major upgrade of the arcaheological site is projected for the near future.

So concluding, for a visitor who will have some time in the area it would be nice to visit all of the above sites, but for for a "more typical/average" visitor (as is the most case) who visits Peloponnese, he would not miss that much if he does not visit fraxthi or didyma or lerna, while you can not say the same for Epidaurus, Palamidi, Mycenae.... its simple like that!

Even if I love the taste of Pol Roger Champagne, doesn’t mean that I can’t fully enjoy a bottle of Cava, and even if the beauty of a perfect rose can take my breath away, I can still be moved to tears by the first tiny spring flower.
Standing where the first known European stood 20.000 years ago, visiting a tiny whitewashed church in an enormous red walled crater, thinking about the secrets of a small pyramid and smelling the incense in a beautiful old monastery, fills me we awe and wonder. If life can be enjoyed only by experiencing ”the biggest” or ”the best” or even ”the most famous”, I would call it a poor and sad life.

So why this hostility, dear Kratylos? What are you trying to prove? My intension was just to give a small taste of what this region has to offer, and even if people naturally don’t come her only to see, lets say, the bridges of Arkadiko, the bridges are there, one of them even in sight driving from Nafplio to Epidavros. Why not stop, walk where men has walked in thousands of years, maybe pick a little spring flower, and see that the stones of the bridge is laid with just as much love as the stones in Epidavros. Isn't that amazing!
