Sweden halts sending back asylum seekers to Greece

Sweden has become the third country in the EU to refrain from sending asylum seekers back to Greece. This statement was made by Dan Eliasson, the director general of the Swedish Migration Board.

Why? He stated the following reasons below:

"The reasons are, firstly, that the situation in Greece is deteriorating constantly for asylum seekers," he said.

"Secondly, the European Court for Human Rights has asked member states to refrain from sending asylum seekers back to Greece."

According to the EU's highly criticized Dublin II regulation illegal immigrants must be sent back to the country where they entered the EU.

Adding up the numbers nearly 75% of the 40,000 people who were caught in the first half of the year entering the EU first came in through Greece. A whopping 30,000 people. (And who knows how many reached Greece's shores unnoticed?) So for now, 100 would be asylum seekers who were going to be returned to Greece are staying in Sweden.
Earlier this week, a group of 175 EU guards were sent to start monitoring the Greek - Turkish border where thousands of migrants cross each year.
Human rights groups often criticize Greece for the way the treat asylum seekers.
So we ask...whose burden is it to help stem the flow of these immigrants?
