Achaia Photo thread
 

Most people from nordic countries ignore this region of Peloponnese or they know very few things about it.
So let me introduce you Achaia through some photos of its beaches,villages,mountains and monuments.
You are all welcome to participate with your photos, comments or questions.

1.
Some few Km east of Patras and right after Rio is the village of Agios Vasilios (Άγιος Βασίλειος). It has a small pebble beach which is very popular among the locals and the students of the uni. during the summer period.

Kalogria beach as seen from the top of the largest dune in Peloponnese. One of the longest and nicest beaches of Peloponnese.

Psathopyrgos is a small village 15 Km east of Patras. Well known to the locals for its fish taverns and its traquill atmosphere.

The marina of Patras is the largest in Peloponnese (capacity 450 boats) and it is one of the best places in the city for a walk or for enjoying your drink looking the beautiful sunsets or the large ferries that depart to Italy.
From the marina you can also take a seaplane to one of the ionian islands :)

All the region of panagopoula and lampiri are on a huge fire !!! 6 airplanes and 1 hellicopter are operating above the burning region.
One of the last forest green areas of peloponnese one more time burning...krima
The winds are very strong , allready some hotels and camps are evacuated.

Jag ser bilderna och börjar längta till Peleponnesos, vi tillbringade en lång rad av somrar där. De flesta turisterna vi träffade kom från mellaneuropa och Italien och kom i jättelika husbilar. Efter ankomsten till Patras med färjan vaggade de runt Peleponnesos via Epidavros och Kalamata, och stannade till på "vår" strand Lagouvardos innan hemresan, för det var så lagom avstånd till Patras . En del familjer kom år efter år.

Saint Apostol Andreas (as we all know Saint Andreas is the brother of Saint Peter and the first-called apostol - Also the patron Saint of Patras)

The church is the largest orthodox church in Greece and second largest in balkans (after Saint Sava in Belgrade)
Inside the church are kept parts of the relics of Saint Andrew , which consist of the small finger, part of the top of the cranium of Saint Andrew and small parts of the cross!
Its a great blessing for all Peloponnese and Greece...just to imagine that the first called Apostol lived and suffered martyrdom here...
