For all the Karpathos fans ,
which beach do you like more in Karpathos and why?

Ok , for sure all of the beaches have very clear waters !
Here is my list: (though i have not been at the north of the island so i will keep my options to the south)

1) Christou pigadi (opposite from prasonisi liliput island)
This very small beach i like more from all , it is quite uknown and the round shape of the small golf gives a special feeling! There you can really relax...
Deissadvantage : no shops,no people,no cafe,no water,no tree

2) ammopi (the sandy one)- nice sand, easy to swim ,restaurant/cafe after, bit more cosmopolitan then the others

3) ahata
the whole landscape untill to arrive in this beach between the mountains is very impressive, but also the beach with the peebles and the rocks is very special and different from the other beaches of karpathos

4) damatria , vatha,limni (near the airport)
nice to swim and look at the surfers , much wind and nice sand.

5) kyra panagia
famous beach but personally i dont get crazy with it , perhaps i should ago again...

In my opinion the east coasts are better then the west side of the island (arkasa, lefkos etc)
I will not rank the beach in Pigadia cause its the worst from all the others.

No, it's just because I haven't tried any of the beaches outside of Pigadia yet. We are planning to, when we return to Karpathos at the end of July. Maybe I can give you an answer after that. ;)

Oh yes we are interested and I share your opinion that the town beach is not good at all. Ammopi beach are much better and I Like the restaurant and bech tavernas very much. When we was there four years ago the food was very good.

Thank yor for your interest to give us information about your country.

Lefkos. (You are the one - my number one). So beautiful. The sandy bay... Nice water....Fishing boats...The landscape... Kali Limni... And my favourite taverna Dramoundana is there.

Hey!
Practice, practice makes the master.....:)
I guess we all "Kalimistas" manhandle the english language more or less successfully when in Greece...
As for Pigadia´s own beach, it has worked fine for me and in time they might even make it better, shifting out the pebbles, stones, cleaning, adding showers&toilettes, , etc.... me being not too interested in beaches as such.....:)...on the other hand I can surely understand others interest in them.
Apart from the town-beach I have visited and swum at Amopi and also taken a dip or two at the beach adjacent to Taverna under the Trees, thats about it for me, beach-wise,......a not-to-good-beach-list I readily admit after some 18-20 visits to Karpathos....
And once Xroni Panaretos took me diving at the northern part of Amopi Bay , very clear waters!!

Hope to better myself next time on Karp and add to my too-short-beach-list, though!
Thanx for your tips and welcome on Kalimera , Kratylos!
Good beach-hunting and keep us stuck in Sweden informed here on Kalimera!

Mikke is the one! He's our Karpathos specialist, and he has just returned from his spring trip. Send him a message! ;)

Ja de har supergod mat der...mmmm....og "verdens beste hvitløkbrød". Yannis, som eier stedet, bor i Mesochori, så da er det vel der 2'ern ligger.
( I dag kan vi ta fram solkremen her hjemme oxo. Herlig.)

Thanks Mikke :)
I agree to what you said about Pigadia beach , with some improvements it would get better...
Ammopi in my opinion , though it gets crowded some times in the summer , it is still very clean (both water/sand).
I have also swimmed north of ammopi like you did , and i find it wonderfull!!(and you can see if you swim a bit deeper many Skaropoula fishes!)

PS: @ Karin thanks for telling me , i allready sent a PM to Mike

Lefkos is a nice beach Ingrid !
Kali Limni i supose you mean the view of the mountain eh?
I have not been to dramoundana , can you eat cheap fresh fish there?
Lefkos has also the dissadvantage that is is a bit isolated from the rest of the island , i mean if something happens , you have to drive through the mountain for a long time and dangerous roads untill you get to pigadia.

Yes, Kratylos, it is lovely been at the sunny Lefkos, listening to the ocean and looking at the top of Kali Limni...:)

Yannis, who ownes Dramoundana, serves very good fish too. His brother is a fisherman and his boat is right outside the tavern.....

Hullo all beach-lovers!!
Have just returned to home after seven hours on the sweetwater ocean Vänern..abbseluttelly lovely day today, maybe the first real summerday??.....Where my wooden double-ender (sv=snipa) Hedvig af Lamberget has elegantly plowed the waves, propelled by my trusty Albin 02, run on alcohol(E85)...putt,putt....
Today we tried to sail for the first time this "summer", so we took the new spritsail-rig,since the wind was quite strong......However, we let the engine putter along while sailing, thus making it easier, haha. This trick is called to use the" iron genua",;)........We also had a "shipdog", a cairnterrier whose name is Cesar. He had his own lightgreen lifevest with a handle on top.....He strutted along(looking ridiculous) after a while like HE was the captain, and not me, so I was contemplating dunking him, but his matte (female owner) didn´t allow it, haha.....

As for the craggy, volcanic beach north of Amopi, its there where I gather my salt on occasion......and now ye all know it....:)
Anyway, its a rocky shore, a bit forbidding, but Xroni took me there for diving once.He put on wetsuit, leadweights and frogfeet like a true professional, while I just had goggles and pants and flippers. We both went into the sea, but Xroni disappeared soon into the blue depths, while yours truly floated around on mebbe two-three meters level. There is no actual beach, the shore ends and than its DEEP straight away.....The shore-wall is full of holes and Xroni said there were murenas there too....gulp.......After a while I sorta felt kinda lonely and the idea of (hungry) murenas was not too amusing, so I went ashore, dried meself and collected some salt instead.....waiting for Mr Neptun Panaretos to appear.....He had some orange float on a string, so after a while it showed up and Xroni raised from the sea like a ancient god.....with an octopus.
Have you ever seen how they kill and prepare them?? Its a lot of bashing and pummeling and whatnot, quite enough to make one loose the eventual appetite....
If you are keen on saltgathering, go in the spring, ok?? Bring a tea-sieve, that works fine........
Good beachhunting on Karp!!
